Turner Prize 2011

I went to see the Turner Prize at the Baltic in the north east on the 21st October.
The nominated artists are Karla Black, Martin Boyce, Hilary Lloyd and George Shaw. The Turner Prize presents the very best of current british art.
My thoughts were amazing all the way through. I loved every one of the artists work. I would suggest this exhibition to anyone.

Also at the Baltic is american artists Mike Kelley & Michael Smith. They call there exhibition 'A Voyage of Growth and Discovery'.
I also loved this exhibition, it was amazing and something different.

There was also an artist called Matt Smith who held a mini exhibition. He filmed about 6 metal/hardcore band members 'pig squealing'. If you like that kind of thing, then I suggest to go see it.

End of the first project of the year

So I have now finished the very first project of second year.
We had to design a house or apartment at the quayside for a client. I was given the client 'nerd'. I was happy with my client as I am a bit of a nerd myself. For the exterior we focused on simple shapes like squares. For the interior, I focused on neutral colours, modern but nerdy furniture. Overall, I really enjoyed the project, met new people and the outcome was very much how we wanted it.

Colin Booth

At the Laing Art Gallery, Colin Booth held an exhibition called the Institute of play. It was thousands of blocks resembling a miniature cityscape and reveals how simple geometric objects and shapes. Personally I found his exhibition not inspiring as it was just blocks and nothing else.

Herringtongate Furniture

Herringtongate Furniture were inspired by a mixture of design heroes from the past, and the infinite influences of 21st century creativity. With almost 20 years in the business of creating high quality bespoke interiors, they have come from a range of quarters: the streets of whitehall, a Spanish island hillside, a contemporary mansion in the north east of England to just name a few. Here are some images of there work.

Summers over.

So I'm back at college now.

This year, I'm going to try my hardest, push myself to do extra well. We get an opportunity to go on a work placement. Which I'm very excited for. So this is another reason why I need to work very hard.

We have had a few presentations on different business's around the north east to get a rough idea of where we would like to go for work placement.

I have decided that I would like to go to a business of Interior and Furniture design.

My plan would be to work within a company for a couple of years till I have enough money for my own business.

Skin collection by Pepe Heykoop

Skin collection is a series of furniture covered in leather remnants. Pepe Heykoop used what was left over from leather furniture companies to cover chairs. The leather scraps are pieced together to create unique furniture.

Club Musee - Madrid

Club Musee have used a combination of art gallery and night club but both with a sharp trendy edge. Designed by Parolio & Euphoria Lab. The space provides a strong back drop for powerful art. It ranges from paintings to video art and other installations.

End of the year.

It has now came to the end of the year. Throughout the year I have learnt many skills such as how to use sketch up, illustrator and auto cad. I think I need more practice on illustrator as I am not to familiar with the programme.

Targets for second year.
I need to work on my time keeping as I sometimes handed in work a little later than the deadline.
I need to ask for help more often when needed.
I need to become more familiar with sketch up, illustrator and auto cad. Illustrator more than others.

When it comes to perspective drawings, I think I need to sit down and draw as many as I can so I can be better at what I do.

I definitely need to become more familiar with annotating work and writing essays in my own words.
Best of all, try a lot harder than first year.

Maurice Dufrene

Maurice Dufrene was born in Paris, 1876 and died in Nogen-sur-Marne, 1955. He grew up collecting scraps of wood, fabric and cardboard from his father's wholesale commodities business. He would work them into his own make-shift atelier creations.

Hector Guimard

Hector Guimard was born in Lyon, March 10, 1867 and died in New York, May 20, 1942. He was an architect best knowing for the French Art Nouveau style of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. His name is known to a broader public only because of his fanciful entrances to the Paris Metro. His style featured wrought iron, bronze and glass. Many of which are still standing today.

Eugène Viollet-le-Duc

Eugène Emmanuel Viollet-le-Duc (1814 – 1879) was a French architect and theorist, famous for his interpretive "restorations" of medieval buildings. Born in Paris, he was a major Gothic Revival architect.

This is my research board on him.

Live Project

At college, I have started a new Live Project.
The client has bought an old church in a village called Cocksfield and has asked students from my course to design the Interior/Architecture.

I am going to concentrate on the Interior and I want the theme, Medieval. I chose this theme as I think it will work very well with the exterior of the church and would like to keep it historical.

Advice

For one of my projects at college, I had to design an architectural presentation board. I had never done a presentation board before, so I wasn't 100% sure on what I had to put on it, or what to do. So I asked for advice of a guy named Khai. He was a massive help and I loved his work.

Evidence of advice :)

Hey, your presentation boards look so good. Do you have any advice on how to make them look professional? I'm studying Interior/Architecture and doing my very first presentation board.

hey louise, thanks for your compliment, hmm i think u should have a look at magazine like mark to get the idea of how to arrange the pictures and always make the main picture or we call it as hero shots alot bigger and avoid too many words as people are not really going to read it :) goodluckfor your presentation board! :)
